Rafael joined Health Services at Columbia in 2009 as a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist. In this role, he works with students referred to the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program and assists with several other substance abuse prevention initiatives.

Concurrently, he is working with the New York City Department of Health on a surveillance project that examines HIV prevalence among women of color and young gay men in New York City. Additionally, he is currently pursuing an M.P.H, with a focus on epidemiology, at the Mailman School of Public Health.
