Prior to joining Health Services at Columbia in July 2006, Maren worked in the education department of Planned Parenthood in Ithaca, New York. Maren attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and received her B.A. in Biology. She is currently pursuing her Master's in Public Health, with a focus on health promotion, at the Mailman School of Public Health.
