Alyson NelsonPsychologistCounseling & Psychological Services, Eating DisordersAlyson Nelson joined Health Services at Columbia in 2006. Prior to joining HSC, Alyson worked as a psychologist in the counseling center at Barnard College . She holds a bachelors degree from Cornell University and earned her PhD at Columbia University . Alyson also holds a masters degree from the London School of Economics. Alyson completed an internship in clinical psychology at the Manhattan Psychiatric Center and then went on to do further training at North Central Bronx Hospital , the Jewish Childcare Association and Trinitas Hospital . Alyson’s professional interests include late adolescent development and transition to adulthood, the coming out and being out process for LGBTQ students and the relationship between identity development and intimacy. She is also the co-author of Making Contact: The Therapists Guide to Conducting a Successful First Interview ( Allyn & Bacon, 2006). Her professional memberships include the New York State Psychological Association and the New Jersey Psychological Association.
