Asere Bello joined Health Services at Columbia in 2005. He completed his studies at Morehead State University and the Institute for Social Ecology. For over ten years he has been, and continues to be, a community organizer. Asere is the co-founder of Urban Mana, a grass-root self education resource center that promotes access to resources and the principles of self-determination, sustainability, interconnected personal and social transformation, and collective action for positive social change. In 2004 he received the Union Square Award for his work at the organization. Born and raised in New York City, he continues the path set by his ancestors in transforming racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of oppression.
