Columbia University Health Services

Primary Care Medical Services

Primary Care Medical Services provides comprehensive care for routine, urgent, and chronic medical needs for students. Primary Care also provides sexual health, reproductive, and gynecological services, LGBTQ health care, immunizations, and referrals.

Mission

Primary Care Medical Services (PCMS) is committed to providing medical care and advice that is responsive to the needs of students. PCMS is organized into three practice groups to provide accessible and well-coordinated care.

Programs and Services

PCMS provides services for routine health matters, on-going health conditions, and well-woman gynecological services. Appointments are strongly encouraged. For acute illness or injury, students can also be seen on a walk-in basis in the Urgent Care area during PCMS scheduled clinical hours.

Gay Health Advocacy Project (GHAP) promotes the health of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community by providing information, advocacy, referrals, confidential HIV testing, counseling, treatment, and support to the entire University community.

Nutrition Counseling is provided by registered dietitians on general nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, and meal planning.

Eating Disorders Team has a multidisciplinary staff that offers confidential consultation and evaluation to students with eating concerns, and promotes awareness of eating disorders and body image.

Columbia Area Volunteer Ambulance (CAVA) is a student-operated and NY State certified volunteer ambulance corps that provides pre-hospital emergency medical treatment and transport.

Travel Medicine Program provides information, immunizations, and preventive medicine for individuals preparing for international travel.

Referrals for off-campus services are provided when medically necessary and after an evaluation at PCMS has been completed.
