Dental Care Options

To assist students and their families, Health Services at Columbia has developed a range of dental care options for students and their families.

When selecting a dental services program, students and their families might consider:

  • The type of provider rendering care (e.g., a faculty supervised dental student, a post-graduate fellow in a dental specialty, an attending dentist)
  • Availability of appointments
  • Location of the dental practice
  • Cost of service

Aetna Advantage Dental Plan

  • Members choose a participating primary care dentist (PCD) from Aetna’s broad network of dentists
  • You can visit any participating dentist for a reduced fee
  • PCD referral and preauthorization required only when specialty care is needed
  • $5 copayment for all preventive visits

Dental benefits for students and families enrolled in the Columbia Student Medical Insurance Plan

  • Aetna coverage for the treatment of specified serious dental conditions
  • Care through Morningside Dental Associates (MDA) for specified services and emergency evaluation (with a copay)
  • Additional dental services through MDA at discounted fees

Reduced cost services for students and families, regardless of their insurance carrier

  • Morningside Dental Associates (MDA)
  • St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Dental and Oral Surgery Clinic
  • Stu-Dent Plan
