Columbia University Health Services

Grievances

Consistent with the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Columbia University determines reasonable accommodations through a deliberative process involving disability services professionals, appropriate members of the University community, and, of course, individuals with disabilities themselves. Because there is the possibility of disagreement about the appropriateness of reasonable accommodations in any deliberative process, in the interests of fairness, equity, and due process, the University has established both an informal mechanism and formal procedures to address grievances and complaints regarding reasonable accommodations. The University encourages students with disabilities to work with the Office of Disability Services to informally address any difficulties or grievances regarding reasonable accommodations that may arise. In the event that such difficulties cannot be resolved informally, students may avail themselves of Columbia’s formal grievance process by contacting the Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action office, the compliance officers for disability discrimination at Columbia University.
