Housing

For students whose disabilities substantially limit their ability to live in Columbia’s traditional housing arrangements, accommodations are provided.

In collaboration with Columbia housing officials, these accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis, according to documented need, and prevailing standards for reasonable accommodations. Housing accommodations are made after a determination of the student’s disability status and that his or her particular disability necessitates adjustments to the living environment and available housing options. With this in mind, the University has established the following procedures to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to Columbia’s housing resources.

The following are the deadlines for housing accomodations:

  • Columbia College and SEAS incoming first year students: May 1st for Fall semester and November 1st for Spring semester
  • All other Columbia College and SEAS: February 1st for Fall semester and November 1st for Spring semester
  • Graduate, Professional and General Studies undergraduate students: June 1st for Fall semester and November 1st for Spring semester
  • SEAS Combined-plan transger: June 30th for Fall semester and November 1st for Spring semester

Please note: Students who have medical conditions that do not constitute a disability may also apply an assignment or a transfer to a location that may better addresses their special needs through standard housing procedures. Columbia College and Engineering undergraduate students should contact the Office of Housing and Dining for information on this process. Graduate and General Studies undergraduate students should contact University Apartment Housing .

Students must follow the University’s Disability Housing Accommodations Procedures & Guidelines and submit the form for consideration of their requests.
