HIV and STI TestingPrimary Care Medical Services (PCMS) is committed to assisting students in learning about preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Some important recommendations to prevent STI’s include:
STI TestingEvery STI has a medical test, but not all of these tests are reliable. PCMS believes that it is not good care to test for an STI without education about the typical symptoms of the STI, reliability of the test, potential treatments, and what happens if you do not seek treatment. All of our services are provided in a confidential environment that respects your privacy. An evaluation for an STI will include a discussion with a PCMS provider about your concerns and possible symptoms, a physical examination, and testing, if appropriate. Results of the physical are discussed with you during the same visit. Lab results are reported to you as soon as they become available, generally within 2-3 business days. HIV Testing
PCMS
and the
Gay Health Advocacy Project (GHAP)
both provide confidential HIV testing and counseling. GHAP provides testing on a walk-in basis and allows as much time as you need with a professionally trained peer counselor. Many students find their sessions with the GHAP counselors to be very informative and, equally important, reassuring. For more information, go to GHAP Walk-In Hours.
