Peer Counseling and Advocacy with RC/AVSC
(Women only)
Peer Counselors offer emotional support and information to survivors and co-survivors, on the phone and in-person. They are available to help students address the immediate and long-term reactions that someone might have after a violent experience, such as fear, guilt, sadness, anger, shame, or embarrassment. Peer Counselors staff our helpline to provide short-term counseling, emotional support, and referral information to survivors of sexual and relationship violence. Peer Advocates assist survivors by accompanying them to the hospital, health services, the police, security, court, campus disciplinary proceedings and other resources. They also help survivors make informed decisions about reporting and disciplinary options. Peer Counselors/Advocates receive 50 hours of training in ten sessions. Trainings are only offered once per academic year. Contact the RC/AVSC for more information. Go to Forms to download an application.

RC/AVSC Peer Educator
Peer Educators lead interactive workshops and provide the campus community with information about sexual assault and relationship abuse, campus services, positive ways to communicate about sex, and ways we can all get involved to create an environment in which survivors are supported and sexual violence is not tolerated. Peer Educators receive 20 hours of training. Trainings are only offered once per academic year. Contact the RCAVSC for more information. Go to Forms to download an application.

Become a Stressbuster
Stressbusters are teams of student from Columbia and affiliated schools that relax Columbians by delivering free five-minute upper-body rubs at events, parties, and programs. The requirements are stress-free and the rewards keep our Stressbusters coming back for more. Since 1995, they've delivered thousands of stress breaks at special events, in residence halls, for office staffs, and at student organization meetings. Stressbusters are not licensed massage therapists.

Training sessions usually occur at the beginnings of semesters and once or twice mid-semester. Sessions last approximately two hours, half of which you'll spend experiencing the benefits of the skills you just learned as another attendee's practice buddy.
