Columbia University Health Services

Counseling Services

Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) is available to consult with deans, faculty, and staff about students of concern. If you would like to speak with a counselor to solicit advice about a student, please contact us . We are happy to speak with you about how to refer a student to CPS, how to respond to a student in crisis or obvious distress, or to discuss any other student-related matters of concern.

We also provide staff training on specific mental health topics. We meet with deans, faculty, teaching assistants, residence life staff, departmental administrators, and other similar groups to discuss issues such as early warning signs and symptoms of psychiatric illness, bipolar disorder, and disruptive students and employees. We are also available to meet with your staff if you would like ongoing consultation with a CPS counselor about difficult situations that might come up in your work with students. Of course, in any consultation, we adhere to the strict standards of confidentiality that guides our work with students, and will not share privileged information about students using our clinical services.

If you are interested in staff development training and workshops, please go to Workshops, Groups, and Training.
