Columbia University Health Services

Primary Care Medical Services

While we are primarily a student-focused primary care provider, there are times when employees may be seen in the Urgent Care Center . The Urgent Care Center staff will evaluate injuries and sudden acute illnesses that occur during your workday. Employees will be evaluated and referred to either an emergency department, their primary care provider, or workmen’s compensation physician for follow up.

The Urgent Care Center does not perform evaluations for workmen’s compensation, nor do they provide follow up care for employees. Health Services provides urgent care assessment for injury or sudden illness occurring at work.  Clinicians will provide immediately necessary treatment and refer the employee to emergency services or to his or her primary care provider for follow-up treatment. (There is no charge for these services.)  Primary Care Medical Services also provides flu shots, Hepatitis B immunization (if required by the individual’s job), and measles immunization (if specified in a pre-employment agreement) are available at cost. For more information about immunizations available and their costs, go to Vaccine Fees .

Columbia employees anticipating travel may obtain a travel assessment at the CU on the Road Travel Medicine Program . An appointment is required and a fee of $35 is charged for the assessment. CU on the Road also provides immunizations commonly prescribed for travelers, for example, yellow fever and typhoid. These immunizations are provided at cost to employees, making the CU on the Road Travel Medicine Program one of the best alternatives available locally for travel medicine.

Confidential HIV antibody testing, counseling, and referral for treatment is available to all members of the Columbia community through the Gay Health Advocacy Project . There is no fee for these services, and no appointment is needed. Contact us for more information and walk-in hours.
