In August 2024, Columbia University launched the Mental Health Initiative to “advance the institution’s impact on mental health, encompassing both the critical need to address the current crisis afflicting local and global communities and the importance of long-term strategic investments in the science, education, and policy that can drive sustained improvements in mental health worldwide.”

Under the theme “Capturing Diverse Perspectives on Mental Health,” the Learning Specialist team at Disability Services proposed the Starting the Semester off Right video workshop series specifically designed for asynchronous learning and community building. Once created, the series will be available via Columbia Health’s website and will provide sustainable benefits by sharing resources, strategies, and diverse perspectives on mental health for many semesters to come.

We are pleased to announce that our team was among those awarded a grant from this initiative. The Learning Specialist team will be working over the summer to produce the video, with the intent to launch the first series in Fall 2025.
