HangYi Chen

In her role as a postdoctoral psychology fellow, Dr. HangYi Chen provides individual and group psychotherapy, crisis mental health counseling, and intake evaluations. She works primarily from a psychodynamic-relational perspective, believing in the value of refining the understanding of the client’s emotional landscape in the client-therapist dyad. She also honors trauma-informed and culturally responsive sensibilities and integrates behavioral therapy strategies in her practice.

HangYi received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Fordham University. Prior to joining Columbia Health, HangYi completed her pre-doctoral internship at Cambridge Health Alliance-Harvard Medical School. She also received clinical training at various externship sites including VA and general hospital outpatient and inpatient settings. Before returning to school for psychology, HangYi worked as a licensed clinical social worker providing services to immigrants and refugee survivors of trauma. HangYi is interested in working with students to explore topics relevant to trauma, attachment, immigration and acculturation stressors, depression, anxiety, relational dynamics and concerns, and racial identity development.
