These guidelines are specific to inquires regarding Travel Medicine visits at Columbia Health.

How much do vaccines cost?
Vaccines administered at Medical Services are covered 100% (i.e. no co-pay) for students enrolled in the Columbia Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna Open Choice PPO). For other insurance plans, check vaccine prices on our Fees for Additional Services page.

Do I need to resend my vaccine documents?
If you've uploaded all childhood vaccines, no need to resend. If only MMR was uploaded, please upload your full childhood vaccine history. 

What if I do not have my past vaccine records?
If you don’t have your records, the clinician will recommend the full set of vaccines to bring you up to date. You may review the Adult Vaccination Schedule here.

How can I know which vaccines I need?
Check your travel visit note in the Patient Portal for clinician recommendations. 

What if I do not want to take any vaccines?
Vaccination is your choice. However, vaccines are strongly recommended to protect you and to prevent bringing vaccine preventable illnesses into communities abroad, especially in regions with limited healthcare resources. Medical Services encourages students to receive all recommended vaccines to safeguard both personal and public health.

What if the vaccine appointment times do not work for me?
 Call 212-864-7426 to arrange a suitable time. If you can’t make the appointment, please cancel it using the Patient Portal to open up the slot for other students.

Do I still need vaccines if I am traveling to my home country?
Yes. After living abroad, natural immunity to certain diseases may decline. Immunization schedules also differ between countries. A travel health appointment ensures you receive the proper vaccinations before your trip.
