Couples Counseling
Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) provides short-term couples counseling. If you’re interested in receiving couples counseling, please schedule a Treatment Planning Session through the Patient Portal or by calling 212-854-2878.
Couples Counseling Through CPS
CPS offers couples counseling to help students address concerns specific to couples, such as conflict resolution, communication, and more.
Note that CPS adheres to strict standards of confidentiality.
What do I do if I’m experiencing a mental health emergency?
If you’re experiencing a mental health emergency outside of clinic hours, please call 212-854-2878 and follow the recorded instructions to speak with a clinician or dial 911.
You may also contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 or visiting their website.
Who is eligible?
All Morningside and Manhattanville students who have paid the full-time Columbia Health and Related Services fee are eligible to receive individual counseling.
For those who are in a relationship with a non-student or have not paid the full-time Columbia Health and Related Services fee, CPS offers support to formulate a treatment plan that includes a referral to an appropriate off-campus resource.
How do I get started with couples counseling?
One member of a couple eligible for services at CPS calls CPS at 212-854-2878 and requests couples counseling. The Health Services Assistant will arrange an initial interview with a couples specialist.
Each member of the couple will participate in this session. At the conclusion of this initial interview, the CPS provider will either offer further consultation and counseling or suggest an outside referral. These recommendations are based on your treatment needs and goals as a couple.
How much does it cost?
There is no fee for couples counseling visits for students who have paid the full-time Columbia Health and Related Services Fee.
