Gender Affirming Care at Columbia 

Columbia Health offers high-quality, affirming, accessible care to trans and gender-diverse patients. 

Who is eligible? 

Support is available to all students on the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses. This includes those at Teachers College, Union Theological Seminary, and Jewish Theological Seminary. 

How do I access Gender Affirming Care?  

Starting Gender-Affirming Care  

Students who are interested in exploring or initiating gender affirming care may schedule an appointment with Alice! Health Promotion through the Gender Affirming Care Intake or by calling 212-854-5453 to learn about their options.   

Continuing Gender Affirming Care  

Students who have already initiated gender affirming care elsewhere may be able to continue their hormone therapy, including renewal of prescriptions, at Medical Services. Students seeking prescription refills are encouraged to connect with their Medical Services provider well before they run out of their prescription to avoid last-minute emergencies.

Students can also schedule an appointment with Alice! Health Promotion through the Gender Affirming Care Intake or by calling 212-854-5453.  

Students should have a copy of their medical records detailing their previous experience with gender affirming care.  

Accessing Gender Affirming Care off-campus  

Students who are interested in pursuing gender affirming care with an off-campus provider are encouraged to connect with their primary care provider at Medical Services for guidance, if appropriate.  

How much will it cost? 

The Columbia Student Health Insurance Plan (the Columbia Plan) includes benefits for hormone replacement therapy and surgery. Students on the Columbia Plan (administered by Aetna) may email the Student Health Insurance Office at [email protected] for support around
