This no-cost program trains faculty, staff, and active undergraduate and graduate students on the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses. Relaunched in 2025 following a pause during COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative reflects Columbia Health’s ongoing commitment to strengthening community safety and emergency preparedness.
All certifications are provided through the American Heart Association (AHA) and are taught by AHA-certified instructors. The CPR Program Coordinator is also certified as AHA faculty, with the authority to train and certify new instructors.
To ensure these critical skills are accessible to everyone, Columbia Health eliminated financial barriers by offering the training free of charge. This program equips community members with the skills and confidence to respond during an emergency, both on and off campus.
Columbia Health has also partnered with the Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) Program to promote CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) training. While 27 public-access AEDs are located across the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses, many community members remain unaware of their locations or proper usage. Expanding training increases campus-wide awareness and readiness when every second counts.
By building a growing network of trained responders, the CPR program is creating a safer, more prepared Columbia community.
