On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul hosted Shaping Narratives, a Women’s History Month Reception at the Executive Mansion. The event, the Governor's Women's Affairs Team, gathered women leaders from notable non-profit, advocacy, and social justice organizations across New York State, including Senior Executive Director of Columbia Health Sexual Violence Response, La’Shawn Rivera.

La’Shawn joined dozens of key women leaders, along with Kathy Hochul and student leaders to inaugurate the Shaping Narratives exhibit the Governor’s Office organized in honor of Women’s History Month. The exhibit celebrates the history of New York’s great women communicators and their legacies which continue to provoke and inspire generations of women who feel the opportunity to shape humanities’ story in their grasp.

Of the experience, La’Shawn noted  “It was both an honor and humbling experience to be surrounded by so many accomplished leaders from across the state, and to represent Columbia Health, and Columbia University as allies in supporting women in New York State and the global community.”

Governor Hochul’s team said of the attendees, "It is always a pleasure to be in the company of so many remarkable women."
